Sonya Sims needs no introduction. Her talent, professionalism, will, drive and passion for make-up artistry has taken her to heights beyond her wildest dreams. Sonya was born in Columbia, SC, where she also attended the University of South Carolina. She graduated in August of 2007 with a BA in Retail Management/Fashion Merchandising. In June 2007 she attended the Paris Fashion Institute in Paris, France, where she dedicated five weeks towards the design and orchestration of garments, which was overseen by some of the top fashion gurus in Paris.
During her last week in Paris, Sonya was awarded the coveted opportunity to do make-up and styling for Paris Fashion Week. After returning to the states, Sonya began her professional career in make-up artistry with Clinique cosmetics, but that was just the beginning. Sonya’s love and compassion for people led her to production, and in 2009 she produced her own fashion show, which raised close to $1000 for Harvest Hope Food Bank.
Sonya moved to Atlanta, GA in 2009, where her career continued to excel. In 2011 she was accepted to Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta, with specialization in Cut and Coloring under the instruction of the great Scott Cole. She graduated with honors in October 2012.
Sonya has worked on set at countless TV productions, stage plays, fashion shows, book cover, magazine cover, and music video shoots. Sonya’s set work includes: Hunger Games II, Love and Hip Hop Season II, The Braxton Family Values, Trumpet Awards, and Block Entertainment, just to name a few. She has also worked for Emmbre Perry on various production projects, including film and stage plays. Sonya has also been on the TV screen, acting in the sitcom “Metro”, produced by Christopher Dorrah. Sonya’s latest project was working on set of Missy Elliott’s “DripDemeanor”, “Throw It Back”, and “Cool Off” videos, creating looks for her dancers under the direction of the talented Alexandra Butler.
Sonya currently resides in Columbia, SC servicing her home town and surrounding areas. She has one daughter, Ariana.
